Jonathan is the head brewer at the Flix location in El Paso, Texas. Born and raised in El Paso, Jonathan started taking an interest in beer in the early 2000’s and managed several craft beer bars before starting his “commercial’ brewing career. After homebrewing for 15 years, Jonathan has learned different styles and techniques that allow him to bring his ideas to fruition. Jonathan started brewing commercially at El Paso Brewing Co. and won a gold medal at the Desertica Festival in Juarez. Since then, he has won a total of eight medals. His greatest achievement so far has been bringing home the most prized award in the brewing community, the World Beer Cup.
Jonathan was invited earlier this year to the Czech Republic to learn about their brewing techniques and traditions and plans to help bring some of that tasty brew over to the States. Jonathan's passion goes beyond the brew deck; he is the region lead for the El Paso area of the Texas Brewers Guild, and he is president of the Borderline Brewers, a local homebrew club. He is always searching for new techniques and ways of brewing, but he will always love his lagers. He was raised by wolves.
Josh started with Flix Carmel in August of 2015 as an assistant brewer. Josh learned about brewing while in an organic chemistry class at Purdue University. This immediately became a hobby of his and he spent the next few years home brewing and learning about brewing while in school and out of school. Following Purdue, while trying to get a brewing job, he worked for a Food and Chemical manufacturing laboratory. When Flix was hiring a new assistant in the fall of '15, they were looking for a brewer with lab experience, and so Josh got the job! Josh was assistant with Flix Carmel until September of 2017, when he went to open a brewery in the town he and his wife were currently living in. During Covid he then went to work with a brewery equipment engineering firm. When he heard Flix Carmel was reopening and looking for a new head brewer, he jumped at the chance! In his spare time, Josh does some serious gardening, raises Chickens, Ducks, and Turkey, and makes wine and cider.
